Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police, in coordination with the Monitoring and Control Center, detained five motorists after documenting a series of dangerous traffic violations that authorities say disrupted traffic flow and put road users at serious risk.
According to police statements, the drivers were found overtaking from the right in a hazardous manner, using the road shoulder to pass other vehicles, failing to maintain a safe distance, and ignoring mandatory lane requirements. These violations, police noted, caused confusion on the roads and created conditions that could have led to severe accidents.
The Traffic and Patrols Directorate urged motorists to respect traffic laws and adhere to responsible driving behavior, emphasizing the need to maintain a safe following distance, particularly on internal roads where sudden stops are common.
Abu Dhabi Police also called on drivers to avoid improper overtaking, ensure the road is clear before changing lanes, and refrain from passing other vehicles except from the left side.
Police warned that weaving between lanes and changing directions without signaling remains one of the leading causes of collisions.
Abu Dhabi Police reiterated that the road shoulder must never be used for overtaking, stressing that it is reserved exclusively for emergency vehicles and response teams, whose ability to reach accident sites quickly can be critical to saving lives.
