Ras Al Khor Bridge closed after accident

The Ras Al Khor Bridge has been closed after an oil tanker carrying 4,000 gallons of petrol flipped over and caught fire on it.

"The bridge has been greatly damaged due to the overturned oil tanker. Motorists should take the road to Al Ruwai and Al Ain or to Al Quoz," a municipal official said.

The municipality is trying to find a shorter alternative route, and is awaiting a report from a consultant company to decide whether the bridge will have to be demolished, as there are fears it could collapse.
