Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new bus route as part of its efforts to improve public bus transport services.

The new route number C-28 will provide bus service from the Gold Souq Bus Station in Deira to Al Mamzar Park via Baniyas Road, Deira Taxi Station, Al Muraqqabat Road, Abu Hail and Al Wuheida Road. Four standard buses have been deployed on this route during week days while the number of buses will be reduced to three during weekends and holidays.

"We are expanding and upgrading bus services to cope with the increasing demand of passengers due to urban growth," said Abdullah Yousuf Al Ali, Director of Bus Department at the RTA's Public Transport Agency.

A number of other changes have been introduced to other routes. The route of bus C-26 has been changed and it will not pass through the Dubai International Airport Terminal 2 instead of Terminal 1. Some 12 buses will be deployed on this route during the normal days and 10 buses during Fridays and holidays.

"Effective June 1, Bus Route C-15 will terminate at Hamirya Port instead of Al Mamzar Beach Park and there will be 14 buses to serve this route during the normal days, Fridays and holidays," said Al Ali.

Other changes introduced by the Agency include using standard buses on Route C-22 and the interval between trips changed to 15 minutes. However, this service will not be available on Friday mornings.

The Agency has also terminated service on routes 22 and 28 due to lack of passengers.
