Dubai: Green Community residents have started feeling the effects of increased traffic on Emirates Road, even though they live far from the main city centre.
They said the situation has been getting worse every day as they face acute traffic congestion at the roundabout on Emirates Road. Known as the Dubai Investment Park roundabout, it links Emirates Road, the Road E11 to Jebel Ali and the road leading to the Green Community.
"Our lives are in danger because hundreds of trucks pass through this roundabout, which has no traffic signal and no police patrols to regulate the traffic," said Wael Samman, a resident.
He said it takes at least 30 to 45 minutes to reach the roundabout from the Green Community - a distance which should not take more then five to 10 minutes to cover. "It is the only road to access the community and to get out of the community either to go to Shaikh Zayed Road or to Emirates Road," he said.
Samman said despite repeated requests the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have done nothing to solve the issue.
"They need to come up with some solution because the road is used by families and schoolchildren and it has become very dangerous with unruly trucks dominating the roundabout," he said.
Reem Al Seikaly, another community resident, said traffic was horrendous, especially between noon and 1.30pm and during morning rush hour.
"I have to drop two kids off at school and it is taking much more time to reach the school now," she said.
She said immediate measures are needed to regulate traffic flow at the roundabout because the number of residents is increasing and so is the traffic.
