Abu Dhabi: Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Interior, has passed a resolution regarding the phasing out of vehicles more than 20 years old from the UAE's roads from January 1, 2009.
As per the resolution, traffic departments across the emirates will stop registering or renewing licences on vehicles over 20 years old as of December 1.
Also, from January 1, the maximum permitted ratio of carbon monoxide in vehicle exhausts will be reduced from 4.5 per cent to 3.5 per cent, and hydrocarbon emissions will be reduced from 800 to 500 parts per million.
