The International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) held a specialised training course on the Design and Management of Irrigation Systems for Biosaline Agriculture.

At the end of the course, Dr Mohammed H. Al Attar, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of ICBA, handed over certificates to 24 participants from 12 Arab and Islamic countries - UAE, Oman, Yemen, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Senegal, Pakistan and Bang-ladesh.

Dr Al Attar thanked the participants for their interest in learning more about the concepts of biosaline agriculture and promised more training programmes this year which will be held with the new facilities available in the Training and Auditorium Centre built recently at ICBA's headquarters.

"These courses are part of ICBA's main activities and will focus on training individuals on the concepts of biosaline agriculture which will, in the end, by using these techniques, reduce the massive demand on fresh water resources for irrigating field and forage crops, landscaping and trees," Dr Al Attar added.

Dr Bassam Hasbini, Irrigation Management Specialist at ICBA, explained that this intensive course focused on training on the different irrigation methods under the saline condition of water and soils, in addition to computer training and field training.
