In a bid to highlight the talent of children with special needs, the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre has organised television and radio programmes for Ramadan. In each segment the presenter asks shoppers at the Town Centre and Deira City Centre, between 9 and 10pm, how they would deal with disabled people.

Centre Director Mariam Othman said, "It is to help raise awareness of how they have to deal with people with special needs in all situations. The programme will also bring handicapped people closer to mainstream society.

"In each 15-minute episode we'll also have an interview with one child with special needs from any of the centres in the UAE.

"He or she will be a child with special talent, such as playing music and painting despite being handicapped. The TV programme will run until December 11 and will be televised live every day.

"In addition, we're also having radio programmes in cooperation with Umm Al Quwain Radio. They'll have a two-hour programme every Thursday and Friday from 9-11pm during Ramadan.

"During the radio programmes, we'll give detailed information about handicapped people in the country and the work being done by the centres. "The 15 children with special needs who have been selected from centres across the UAE will receive Dh2,000 each."
