One of the UAE's leading supermarket chains, Spinneys Dubai LLC, has announced that it will open a new full service outlet at Sharjah Sahara Centre.

"The supermarket, the company's first to be located in a Sharjah shopping mall, is expected to open in the second quarter of this year," said Ali Albwardy, owner and chairman of Albwardy Investment which owns the supermarket chain.

Albwardy said the project cost of the new market is Dh12 million. "We are planning to open six more outlets throughout the country," he added.

Abdulrahman Bukhatir, chairman of Bukhatir Investments and co-owner of Sahara Centre explained that although the plan to open a supermarket is not part of the Sahara Centre project, the decision had been taken due to the great demand of customers.

The new Spinneys outlet at the centre, the fourth in the emirate of Sharjah, will boast a total area of 35,000 square feet and feature a host of products and services, adding value to the mall's already extensive retail offering.

The outlet joins the 10 other branches in the supermarket chain serving customers throughout Dubai and Sharjah.

"We are delighted to announce our partnership with the Spinneys Dubai group and look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship," said Gavin Cox, managing director of the centre.

"With Spinneys joining the centre as our seventh anchor tenant we are confident that our customers will be pleased with the even more comprehensive retail offering at our mall. The opening of a supermarket has been eagerly anticipated and it will come as a welcome surprise to our valued customers."

The one-stop supermarket will house more than 35,000 consumer products and encompass grocery, delicatessen and a bakery section in addition to convenient special services including a florist, nutrition centre, ATM and a mobile phone company, as well as photo processing and dry cleaning services.

"We wanted to operate in a mall environment in Sharjah, which is why we selected Sahara Centre. It's a prime location for our new store as it will serve the growing number of shoppers residing in the vicinity, in addition to customers visiting the mall from other areas of Sharjah and Dubai," said Jannie Hotzhausen, CEO Spinneys Dubai.

Spinneys will be located at the mall's central drum parking level, allowing consumers direct and easy access to their vehicles when shopping at the supermarket.

With Sahara Centre's excellent location in the fast-growing Al Nahda district - expected to house more than 100,000 residents in the next few years - the supermarket will bring its exciting, yet practical shopping experience to customers.
