Sharjah: Police on Sunday introduced a new bike to its fleet that is capable of navigating narrow lanes and cutting open vehicles to rescue trapped motorists and passengers.

Brigadier Humaid Al Hudaidi, director general of Sharjah Police, inaugurated the new service that complements the Rescue Unit Department, in order to assist operations in rescuing motorists and aiding ambulances.

The bike is equipped with a hydraulic system that can help rescue trapped motorists involved in traffic accidents or if a fire breaks out in the vehicle's engine, Brig. Al Hudaidi said.

The new bike, dubbed "The Scorpion" due to its slender shape and speed, was a result of the efforts of the police's transportation department. He said the rescue unit is constantly delayed in arriving at the scene of traffic accidents due to the congestion on the roads, and by implementing this innovative technology, police will be able to arrive at accident scenes in a significantly shorter period of time.

"This bike can easily respond to any type of emergency, and can dismantle a car quicker than our regular rescue units.

"It can accomplish all missions in the same manner as rescue vehicles, but the main feature is that it can easily access sites in jammed and crowded areas, and also in deserted areas or mountainous ones," said Brig. Al Hudaidi.
