Appeal to residents in interest of public health
Abu Dhabi: Residents in the capital have been urged not to undertake slaughtering activities outside registered slaughterhouses during Eid festivities in order to maintain public health standards.
During the Eid period, public slaughterhouses in Abu Dhabi city will remain open between 6am and 6pm to serve, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced in a statement sent on Thursday. The Abu Dhabi Automatic Slaughterhouse will however remain closed on the first and second days of Eid, resuming operations only on the third day. During Ramadan, these slaughterhouses processed more than 40,000 animals.
The municipal statement stressed that registered slaughterhouses are equipped to deal safely with all slaughtering procedures while ensuring a veterinarian is at hand to check all animals that are processed at the facilities.
“A number of elements provided by the slaughterhouses ensure public safety. These include the pre- and post-slaughtering veterinarian inspection, slaughtering by qualified butchers, and the proper disposal of wastes,” said Khalifa Mohammad Al Rumaithi, director of public health at the municipality.
No changes are expected in the fees for slaughtering services, the municipality statement added.
