Municipality cracks down on illegal workers

Dubai Cracking down on illegal workers, the Dubai Municipality caught 326 street vendors, beggars and unlicensed car washers in April.

Obaid Ebrahim Obaid Marzouqi, head of Markets Department at the municipality, said the drive had also resulted in the seizure of several low-quality goods and pirated CDs.

"A total of 4,389 counterfeit products, including ready-made garments, perfumes, cameras, and watches that were fake international brands were confiscated.

Also, some 3,822 DVDs containing pirated films, pornographic movies, in addition to 197 foodstuff items, including boxes of fruits and vegetables, were seized last month," he said.

The civic body will hand over the unlicensed workers for deportation.

In 2011, the municipality had caught 4,200 illegal workers and seized around 79,000 different types of pirated goods, including films.
