The Sixth Annual Book Exhi-bition yesterday opened at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) of UAE Univer-sity, displaying a huge collection of recent titles in different fields of medicines.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UAE University.
The 10-day exhibition is being held at the faculty's premises and its primary objective is to provide students and faculty members with new research and reading material.
The National Medical Library (NML) has been playing a leading role in the exhibition with the support of the Medical Students Association and the Medical Book House from Saudi Arabia. An official said more than 2,000 of the latest publications were on display or sale.
"These titles were published last year and this year and are carrying up-to-date research and findings in various fields of medicine."
He said the books are being sold at a 15 per cent discount that makes them cheaper than the local market and students are making use of this opportunity.
The NML serves as backbone for information for research activities for 30 medical institutions and hospitals in the country.
Established in May 1987 as a central educational resource, it has grown enormously over the years and currently has more than 20,000 books, and 450 regular subscriptions to regional and international medical journals and titles.
The NML is basically a part of the FMHS to support its undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate educational programmes.
