Chemical warehouse goes up in flames in Ras Al Khaimah's industrial area

Ras Al Khaimah: A massive fire broke out at a chemical warehouse on Friday here, causing widespread damage to the structure and its contents, according to Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence.
The fire broke out early morning on Friday. No casualties were reported.
The Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence, in cooperation with Civil Defence centres from Sharjah, Fujairah and Ajman managed to bring the fire under control within two hours of it being first reported, official said.
The warehouse is located in the industrial area in Al Ghail and was used for storage of chemical materials which used to manufactured foam.
A rescue team evacuated the factory and nearby buildings to ensure workers’ safety, official said.
Police patrols cordoned off the area and closed roads leading to the factory.
The site has been secured by Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence as the chemicals are flammable and fire could spread again.
“The site will be with us till tomorrow to make sure that the fire does not spread to nearby buildings,” official said.
The site will later be handed over to the forensic laboratory to determine the cause of the fire.
