What better way for children to expand their knowledge than through the excitement and wonder of the Modhesh stage shows, taking place every day at the Modhesh Fun City from June 20.
Each occasion will feature plays and sketches that promote educational themes using characters and personalities known to every child.
"We want all children to have a lot fun and laughter, but also to come away having learnt something from the experience," says Laila Suhail, projects director for Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2002.
"Our approach is to create entertainment that features well-known contemporary and historical stories, characters, writers and personalities. From this, children will quickly absorb knowledge through association with play. It is a very effective learning tool."
Modhesh will be participating on stage and presenting the stories and characters to the children along with the performers.
Children will be encouraged to come up on stage to play, sing and dance, as well as ask questions to Modhesh about the stage show and have the chance to meet and interact with characters from their favourite stories and songs.
The shows will take place every day with one theme played out for each week.
The line-up includes such well-known characters as Sinbad, Joha, Shakespeare, Abu Al Qasam Al Tanbouri, Newton, Donkey Shot, and The Little Mermaid.
The selection is designed to enable children to learn about all sorts of people and ideas, and includes themes from science as well as literature.
Modhesh stage shows will take place at the Modhesh Fun City, located at the Airport Expo. The Fun City will be open from 10.00 am until 10.00 pm every day throughout DSS 2002.
Meanwhile, the Modhesh skills workshop, in-malls activity will be conducted on four days in a week from June 20 to August 30, 2002, which will encourage young children to use their creative talents to create simple objects that can help them to showcase their abilities.
Besides the Mask Making workshop and the Conservation workshop, which will be held over a period of two weeks, the rest of the workshops will be held in conjunction with the themed surprise.
During the Water Surprises theme, the workshops will teach children how to create paper boats.
Ice Surprises will focus on teaching children the basics of living in the Arctic Zone and the Flower Surprises will concentrate on teaching children the art of dry and natural flower arrangements.
Interestingly, the Sports Surprises theme will help children to create kites and the Art Surprises will hone their artistic talents.
If they are lucky, children will also be delighted by a surprise visit by Modhesh to these workshops.
At no additional costs, these workshops would be an easy method of keeping children creatively occupied for the summer.
