Lanzador picked to win opener

Argentine-bred Lanzador can provide former champion trainer Dhruba Selvaratnam with his second victory of the season by winning the thoroughbred maiden race at today's Abu Dhabi race meet.

The four-year-old colt was a close fifth behind Nationalistic in his more recent start at Nad Al Sheba a month ago and should have improved for the run. He takes on 13 rivals, five of whom will be making their regional debuts.

The danger can come from Saihook, a three-year-old by Halling who represent Allan Smith in the mile race which kicks-off a six-race card.

Gare Au Gorille, who won at this course last year, should make a winning return for trainer James Frazier Jr in a six furlong handicap for Purebred Arabians, while Shoofni Ana, beaten half a length by Futtoon last week, can make amends by winning a seven furlong contest for Purebred Arabian maidens bred in the UAE.
