Kris withdraws cases filed against former lover
Kris Aquino, the controversial TV host and daughter of former president Corazon Aquino, backtracked and withdrew the cases she filed against her former lover, Joey Marquez, mayor of suburban Paranaque, following his public apology on TV.
In a TV interview, he said in Filipino, "If you are listening Kris, please forgive me for all my mistakes. I have not accused you of telling a lie."
In a separate TV interview, Aquino responded and said, "I would want to tell him that he is not the only one who committed mistakes. I know that he is not the only one to be forgiven because I should also learn to forgive myself."
She categorically said she would no longer push for the prosecution of the cases she recently filed in court for prima facie evidence.
"Enough is enough," she said when asked what will happen to the cases she filed against her ex-lover last Monday. The estranged partners both vowed not to talk about their affair on TV.
They met with their lawyers on Wednesday, and arrived at an amicable settlement, based on the conditions that she had earlier demanded.
Sources said Mrs. Aquino, the former president, had called for sobriety and waited for Marquez to change his mind and accept he daughter's demand.
"It was she who gave Mr. Marquez time to reconsider his earlier decision not to publicly apologise to Kris," said Raymond Fortun, the lawyer of Aquino.
