Kabir seals impressive triumph

The most exciting finish to a Junior Club Championship for many seasons was witnessed yesterday over a blustery Wadi course at Emirates Golf Club. With over 20 players competing for the main title of Club Champion and a further 80 playing in their respective divisions, the Yellow Pages-supported Emirates Golf Club Junior Programme was guaranteed a competitive day of golf.

The 2002 boy's title was eventually won by Kabir Seth, who shot an excellent gross 78 to win on countback from in-form Matthew Turner and Kunwar Khehar.

Kabir sealed the title with an impressive display of straight hitting and solid putting in difficult conditions. Kunwar Khehar had heads turning in the clubhouse as his front nine score was posted at 3 under par (32). However, after his blistering start he could not maintain his form on the back nine and also returned a score of 78.

Diane Sophie Regnault lifted her third title in the girls' championship title with a score of 99, beating long time rival and defending champion, Sophie Dyball into second by one shot.

In Division 'B' Tobias Hespe lived up to his promise, scoring an impressive 59 over the back-nine of the Wadi Course pushing Scott Webber into second spot by one shot.

Hanna Hespe continued the winning ways of the Hespe family when she won Division 'C' by two clear shots, scoring 24 over the six-hole Academy course. In second place was Corbyn Berry who showed his consistency in scoring 24 shots along with Salil Saigal.

The 'D' Division, playing over three holes on the Wadi Driving Range was won on a countback by a delighted Asanee Borjesson with 14 shots from Seechelle Boehner and by a further shot from William Hammond.

The Yellow Pages most improved boy of the year award went to Lewis Hammond and the most improved girl award to Caroline Philveus. Coaching resumes on March 14 after the Dubai Desert Classic.
