Jordanian boy drowned in Ras Al Khaimah wadi

Ras Al Khaimah: A 14-year-old Jordan-ian boy drowned on Monday, when a large wave washed him into the Ras Al Khaimah wadi he was crossing with friends.

An officer from Kedra police station waded into the raging waters to help the victim, Ahmad Mohammad.

Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Kabtin, Chief of the Munai'a police station, called upon parents to guard their children and urged youngsters to avoid valleys and dams during such weather conditions.

The grieving father of Ahmad Mohammad, said that once Ahmad's friend reached his house and told him what had happened, he ran to the dam and tried himself to search for his son but people around him prevented him from diving in.

An Emirati friend of the family jumped into the dam and started searching for the boy who had totally disappeared underwater.

An officer from Kedra police station then waded into the raging wadi waters, despite the strong current, to search for the young victim. The boy's body was later recovered by the policeman.

Ahmad, a student of Grade 7 is described by his teachers and school mates to be a smart boy with an outstanding academic performance. Hundreds of Emiratis and residents of the southern areas of Ras Al Khaimah attended his funeral.
