The 23-year-old Jebel Ali Sailing Club (JASC) is all set to host its biggest bash - the International Topcat Class Association (ITCA) World Championships which commence today at the club's delightful Mina Seyahi facility. Close to 60 boats, crewed by sailors from Germany, Austria, Holland, Polland, Italy, Australia, New Zealand and Dubai, will compete over the next five days in the three Topcat categories - K1, K2, K3.

This is the second Topcat World Championship in the sport's 15-year history. The first championships were staged four years ago in South Pattaya, Thailand. JASC Commodore Glyn Kilsby welcomed the competitors to Dubai during yesterday's official opening ceremony which featured a performance by the Dubai Police band.

"We're delighted to host the second world Topcat championships which will go a long way in promoting sailing, and the Jebel Ali Sailing Club, around the world," said Kilsby. "An event like this is also very good for Dubai as it brings together hundreds of people to a world class sailing venue.
"This is also a tremendous opportunity for us to show what we can do as organisers.

In addition with the development of the nearby Dubai Marina it means that the Jebel Ali Sailing club has an even more important role to play in promoting the city as a leading sports and leisure centre. And we're proud to assist in its development." The first race is scheduled to start at 10:45am and the day's competition is expected to end late afternoon. The championship will end on April 10.
