Dubai: Since the programme was founded in 1998, 62 L'Oreal-Unesco Award Laureates from 28 countries have been recognised for their careers.
Through a programme of national and international fellowships, 864 young women from 93 countries have been encouraged to pursue their scientific vocations. Thus more than 900 women scientists have benefited since the creation of the L'Oreal-Unesco partnership.
The programme has three tiers.
The L'Oreal Unesco For Women in Science Award honours five leading scientists, one from each continent, with a prize of up to $100,000 (Dh367,000) in recognition of their groundbreaking achievements and contributions to scientific progress.
The L'Oreal Unesco For Women in Science International Fellowships is granted annually, since 2000, to 15 promising young women scientists.
The L'Oreal Unesco Regional or National Fellowships such as the Pan Arab Regional fellowships programme, are run in as many as 45 countries around the world. The Pan Arab fellowships programme is a combined effort of four partners, the L'Oreal Foundation, L'Oreal Middle East, Unesco — Cairo Office and the Association of Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF).
