UAE urges focus on Sudan crisis after court decision
Hague: The UAE has welcomed the decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague to reject the lawsuit filed by the Sudanese Armed Forces due to lack of jurisdiction. The ruling reflected ICJ’s adherence to international legal standards and reaffirmed the UAE’s consistent position in upholding justice and the rule of law while rejecting unfounded allegations intended to damage its international standing.
The ICJ’s decision to dismiss the case underscored the baseless nature of the accusations against the UAE and highlighted attempts to divert attention from grave humanitarian violations taking place in Sudan. The ruling reinforced the urgent need to address the real causes of the crisis and to hold accountable those responsible for the ongoing atrocities against the Sudanese people.
The UAE reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan and advocated for a peaceful resolution to end the conflict. It continued to support the formation of an independent civilian government that would fulfil the aspirations of the Sudanese people, safeguard their rights, and respond to their needs. This position reflected the UAE’s enduring commitment to fostering stability and development in the region.
The UAE urged the United Nations Security Council and the wider international community not to be distracted by peripheral matters, but instead to concentrate on the dire humanitarian crisis in Sudan. It called for a united response against the obstruction of humanitarian assistance and for ensuring its unhindered delivery to affected populations—an approach aligned with the UAE’s commitment to easing civilian suffering and advancing global relief efforts.
The UAE also called for accountability on the part of both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces for the atrocities committed, emphasising that no side could claim legitimacy while perpetrating such violations. It affirmed that justice and accountability must form the foundation for preventing the recurrence of crimes against civilians and restoring confidence in international institutions.
Furthermore, the UAE urged the international community to stand united against the misuse of sovereignty as a pretext to justify starvation or impede humanitarian aid. It asserted that Sudanese civilians deserved protection and assistance, and that relief workers must not be targeted. This stance reflected the UAE’s unwavering support for human rights and international humanitarian law.
The UAE remained committed to working alongside regional and international partners to promote peace and stability in Sudan. It reaffirmed its dedication to helping build a secure and prosperous future for the Sudanese people through peaceful solutions, sustainable development, and robust support for humanitarian efforts—reiterating its role as a responsible and engaged international actor.
