Dubai: Dubai Public Prosecution (DPP) will host the 19th International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) Annual Conference in November under the theme ‘Good Prosecution Practice; Learning From Each Other’.

Following DPP’s grand success in hosting the 6th IAP-Middle East and Asia-Pacific Regional Conference in 2009, Essam Eisa Al Humaidan, Dubai’s Attorney-General, said on Tuesday that the time has come for a new triumph by hosting the 19th IAP Annual Conference from November 23 to 27.

“As part of DPP’s strategic planning, we set a main goal since 2009 [6th IAP Regional Conference] and decided to go on an international level and bid to host the international conference. A DPP delegation participated in the 18th Annual Conference held in Russia and Dubai was named as the host of the upcoming International Conference in November 2014,” Al Humaidan told a media gathering.

Dubai will be the first Arab country to host the five-day IAP International Conference that will be held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

“The theme is topical and representative of the fast-paced, technology-driven life of today’s world. We are confident that the enlightened discourses by the expert participants and their direct interaction will be an interesting experience, and will further enrich the work of public prosecutors across the world,” said the Attorney-General.

The conference has four main themes — organisational excellence in the performance of public prosecutors, training development and performance appraisal of public prosecutors, the use of technology in prosecution services and investigation of juveniles’ crimes.

Al Humaidan said they expect between 600 and 700 participants from more than 170 countries to take part in the conference.

During the gathering, the Attorney-General launched the Conference’s link which is available in Arabic and English language on DPP’s website [www.dxbpp.gov.ae]

Meanwhile, Khalifa Rashid Bin Deemas, DPP’s First Prosecutor General, said: ““This is a major boost for the legal community in the UAE and the conference is expected to attract widespread interest in legal circles across the region and individual experts from the Middle East and worldwide. The event will help raise public awareness about the role of public prosecutors within the judicial system, in addition to providing an opportunity for legal experts to network with their counterparts from the rest of the world. To us, it will be a great opportunity to share our experiences and learn from the expertise of others such as Singapore, Australia, Canada, the United States and many others.”
