Dubai: Dubai has been ranked first regionally and eighth globally in the 2024 Global Power City Index. This is the second consecutive year the city has achieved this distinction.

The ranking, released by Japan’s Mori Memorial Foundation’s Institute for Urban Strategies, also makes Dubai the first Middle Eastern city to secure a place in the top 10.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, attributed the city’s success to the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, as well as the dedication of Dubai’s people and its trusted partners.

In a tweet, Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that Dubai’s high ranking reflects its commitment to setting new global benchmarks.

“For the second year in a row, Dubai has been ranked first regionally and eighth globally in the Global Power City Index 2024 issued by the Mori Memorial Foundation’s Institute for Urban Strategies in Japan. Dubai is the first Middle Eastern city to achieve this distinction. The city's remarkable performance in global indices has been driven by @HHShkMohd’s visionary leadership and the commitment of its talented people and trusted partners,” Sheikh Hamdan said in the tweet.

A city's true strength lies not in its size or population, but in its vision, ambition, and ability to inspire the world, the Dubai Crown Prince stated. Dubai’s resilience, determination, and innovation continue to drive its progress and shape a dynamic future, Dubai Crown Prince added.

The top 10 cities in the 2024 Global Power City Index are London, New York, Tokyo, Paris, Singapore, Seoul, Amsterdam, Dubai, Berlin, and Madrid.

Given the global competition between cities, the Global Power City Index (GPCI) evaluates and ranks the major cities of the world according to their “magnetism,” or their comprehensive power to attract people, capital, and enterprises from around the world.

It does so through measuring 6 functions—Economy, Research and Development, Cultural Interaction, Livability, Environment, and Accessibility—providing a multidimensional ranking.

The GPCI is able to grasp the strengths, weaknesses, and challenges of global cities in a continuously changing world not only through a ranking, but also through analyzing that ranking’s specific components.
