Sharjah: Twenty-eight inmates who faced financial difficulties will soon be reunited with their families after Al Khalidiya Suburb Council contributed Dh1,106,098 to settle their debts.

In an announcement made during a visit to Sharjah Police Headquarters, a delegation from the council — led by Chairman Khalfan Saeed Al Marri — handed over the donation to Maj. Gen. Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police. The move marks the fourth phase of the council’s humanitarian initiative, “Al Khalidiya… Giving and Release,” which aims to assist financially distressed inmates across the emirate.

Sharjah Police lauded the gesture, describing it as a model for effective community partnership and a reflection of Sharjah’s long-standing humanitarian values. Officials noted that the financial support would ease the burden on the families of the affected inmates while enhancing efforts to reintegrate them into society.

During the meeting, discussions centred on strengthening cooperation between the two entities and addressing shared community priorities. The council presented a cheque designated to clear the financial obligations of the 28 inmates at the Punitive and Rehabilitation Institution, furthering its commitment to social welfare.

Major General  bin Amer praised the Al Khalidiya Suburb Council for its active community role and impactful humanitarian and social initiatives. He noted that the ongoing cooperation between the General Command and the Council reflects strong coordination among the emirate’s official institutions.

He added that the Council Chairman’s support for inmates unable to meet their financial obligations is a commendable humanitarian act that helps ease their hardships.

Al Marri, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the strong partnership with Sharjah Police and extended thanks to the Commander-in-Chief for the warm reception. He reaffirmed the council’s dedication to launching community-focused programmes that align with the vision of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
