Body Groove is the latest addition to the big bouquet of classes being offered at the world-ranked aerobic studio at Fitness Planet in Al Hana Centre, Satwa.

As the name suggests, Body Groove is a cardio-dance workout comprising several dance steps performed to the latest, popular tunes primarily Rhythm and Blues, Hip and Hop and Latino styles.

Most of the moves are of medium-to-high impact based on the amount of energy put in by each individual. The routines comprise fast, repetitive moves with a lot of variation in each track, thus the class provides that extra challenge and commands complete attention.

"As people get used to the basic steps, I will continue to change the routine to incorporate more complex moves as they progress, so the challenge stays," says Viv Gallagher, Body Groove instructor at Fitness Planet who hails from New Zealand, the origin of Body Groove.

Unlike some of the dance-oriented exercise on offer in the city, Body Groove has a mix of relatively simpler routines and is thus, an enjoyable work-out for even complete beginners. It is also a good option for people who do not enjoy sweating it out at a gymnasium or at a high impact aerobics class. The lilting music and rhythmic steps further help in making it "not feel like exercise".

"It is an extension of our effort to continue to provide a wide range of cardio workouts providing as much variety as possible," says Greg, business director of Fitness Planet.

Gallagher, a mother of two, attributes her great shape and level of fitness to Body Groove. "It's a great way to stay in shape as it involves a lot of waist and hip centric movement," she says. People doing Body Groove span all ages, sizes and fitness levels, so the key to enjoying the class is not to feel self conscious but just focus on learning the steps and enjoying the music.
