Fire guts shops and apartments in Sharjah

Sharjah: A fire gutted several shops, four apartments and a car in the Al Ghuwair area of Sharjah on Saturday.

The blaze erupted in one of the shops in the early morning before spreading to adjacent buildings, Brigadier General Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence, told Gulf News.

Civil Defence were called to the incident at 3.30am and were able to contain the fire.

About 10 clothes shops were damaged by the fire. Residents were evacuated by police and no casualties were reported. 

Fire crews handed over the site to a forensics team and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the blaze.
