Dubai: The Radisson Blu hotel, Dubai Media City, has joined hands with the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) to organise a ‘Shoe Box' appeal for the third year in a row, in the hope of raising over Dh1 million for the RCA charity.

The six-week initiative aims to provide 10,000 shoe boxes, each filled with personal hygiene items, for the under privileged.

Pasquale Baiguera, General Manager of the Radisson Blu hotel, said that the campaign also encourages people to volunteer their time. "It's not just about paying money and feeling that you've done your part. Some dedication is required too."

Mohammad Al Zarouni, General Manager of the Dubai Red Crescent branch said the RCA, through its teams and over 10,000 volunteers, serves those who need support regardless of their nationality or religion.

"We have about 6,000 registered underprivileged families of various nationalities and from different backgrounds. If anyone knocks on our door, we'll always help," Al Zarouni said.

Campaign

Donors who wish to take part in the campaign need to collect an official shoe box from one of the collection points, fill it up with the items on the list, which are worth about Dh120 and must be brand new, and drop it back to the hotel before September 30. No money or food items are to be included in the boxes.

The shoe boxes are available in lobbies of the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City, Dubai Media City buildings 2 and 6, Dubai Internet City buildings 3, 6 and 12, Knowledge Village Food Court Area Block 7 and Lulu Hypermarket Al Barsha, as well as the Atlas Communication office in Abu Dhabi.
