Looking for places to visit on a Friday? Tired of doing the movies, malls and brunches with the family? If you want to escape from the humdrum routine, join us as we explore the Emirates
The Emirate of Sharjah offers a unique cultural perspective through the varied museums, heritage sites and art centres that have been built here. A favourite indoor family outing, complete with fun and learning for kids, is a trip to the Sharjah Desert Park, followed by a visit to the Discovery Centre.
We started our journey on Friday afternoon from the Dubai World Trade Centre and drove towards the Sharjah-Dhaid highway in a Dodge Durango. Located almost 30 minutes away from Sharjah city on route to the international airport, the destination can be reached by travelling through the city. We preferred taking the route from the Defence R/A (Interchange 1) on Sheikh Zayed Road towards Al Ain-Hatta which connected to a ring road with sign E 611 towards Sharjah.
At about 46 kms, we reached between the 6th and 7th interchange on the Sharjah-Dhaid highway and continued on until we took a right turn off at intersection 8. Crossing the flyover to the other side, we arrived at the Sharjah Desert Park. The premises comprise three separate themes the Natural History Museum, Arabian Wildlife Centre and Petting Zoo. The kids ran off towards the Petting Zoo, where we saw farm animals, including goats, sheep, and horses in a small outdoor setting.
