Drastic rise in water levels at dams and lakes in the UAE
Dubai: Water levels at lakes and dams in the UAE have gone up drastically due to torrential rain.
17.2 million cubic metres (about 4 billion gallons) of water has been stored in the 67 dams and lakes in the country, said a statement from the Ministry of Environment and Water.
"Eleven dams in northern region collected 5.6 million cubic metres with the largest amount of water gathering in Al Beih dam with 4.5 million cubic metres," the statement said.
Thirty–six dams in the central region collected 5.65 million cubic metres, with the largest amount of water gathering in Buraq Valley dam with 800,000 cubic metres, while the eastern area's 22 dams have collected 5.9 million cubic metres, with the highest gathering at Hamad dam at 2 million cubic metres, the statement said.
