Sharjah: An archeological team from the Royal Holloway University of London has arrived in Sharjah to carry out research to identify the archaeological layers of Al Faya Mountain in Sharjah using gamma rays.

The studies on the mountain started last season, when an archaeological layer dating back over 100,000 years was found.

This is the same period as early Homo sapiens - "wise man" which has the same anatomic features of modern people - left East Africa for the northern shores of the Indian Ocean and South Asia, during periods when the sea level was low.

Crossing what are now called the Indonesian Islands, the intelligent man reached Australia over 50,000 years ago.

This important discovery captured the attention of scientists all over the world, and the findings are expected to shed more light on the history of mankind.
