Everything from pens and computer discs to wrapping paper and glue sticks will be sold by Emirates Post in its latest bid to diversify the range of goods and services available at its branches.

The company has signed a contract with stationery supplier, Al Gurg Stationery. The Jumeirah post office will be the first store to see the changes introduced from next week.

Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post, announced the deal at the Emirates Post head office in Dubai yesterday after a contract had been finalised by Raja Easa Al Gurg, managing director of Al Gurg Stationery, in the presence of Abdullah Al Qassim, general manager of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group of Companies.

The list of stationery items offered by the post office chain will soon also include envelopes, pencils, paper, highlighters, paper clips, and specialist packaging items.

Al Gurg Stationery will be responsible for regularly supplying and replenishing stock.

Abdulla Al Daboos, director general of Emirates Post, said: "The agreement with Al Gurg Stationery marks yet another step in Emirates Post's pursuit of a diversification strategy aimed at adding non-postal items to our portfolio of services at the post offices.

"It is a value addition that is part of our plan to offer various services to consumers under one roof. We are pleased to sign this agreement with Al Gurg Stationery, a leading company that has gained a good reputation in this field."

"We are heading for a future when renewal of passports, driving licences, insurance, air tickets, payment of utility bills and banking transactions will be available at post offices," Al Daboos added. "We are negotiating with a number of partners to add even more innovative services to our branches."

The postal stationery services will be extended to cover the entire network of Emirates Post's post-offices in several phases.

* Renewal of passports, driving licences, insurance, air tickets, payment of utility bills and banking transactions will be available at post offices in future.
