Dubai: The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has issued a health advisory for UAE pilgrims preparing to perform Hajj this year, warning them about the risks of heatstroke and heat exhaustion due to the extreme summer heat during the pilgrimage season.

Taking to social media, the Ministry shared important tips to help pilgrims stay safe and healthy.

The ministry has asked the pilgrims to limit sun exposure, carry a light-coloured sun umbrella, and apply sunscreen regularly. Hydration was stressed as a top priority, with recommendations to drink plenty of water and natural juices.

The ministry had earlier urged Hajj pilgrims to get enough sleep and rest, sit in shade and cool areas and not to rush to perform the rituals of Hajj to avoid fatigue.

Common symptoms

Many pilgrims experience heat exhaustion or heatstroke as a result of standing and walking for a long period of time in the sun when the temperature is high, the ministry highlighted in a previous message.

The symptoms include:

Headache

Dizziness and vertigo

Dryness and redness of the skin

Muscle fatigue

Nausea and vomiting

Tachycardia

Difficulty in swallowing and breathing

Unconsciousness

Pack smart

In another post, MoHAP advised all pilgrims to pack a well-prepared medical kit and personal care items before travelling. Essential items recommended include hand sanitisers, wound disinfectants, pain and fever relievers, moisturising and allergy creams, face masks, tissues, nail clippers, a small fan, and a refillable copper water bottle to keep beverages cold.

The Ministry’s guidance was shared after its participation in the recently held "UAE Pilgrims Forum 2025", part of an ongoing effort to enhance the quality of health and organisational services for pilgrims.

The campaign aims to ensure a safe, comfortable, and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage for all UAE nationals.

Pilgrims are reminded that taking small preventive steps can make a significant difference in avoiding health complications during Hajj.
