His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), inaugurated the Al Dhaid branch of UoS on Thursday.
In his keynote address at a ceremony, Dr Shaikh Sultan announced that Al Dhaid city will see the development of the world’s largest zoo as part of the rapid urban, educational and economic expansions in the region.
Dr Shaikh Sultan also unveiled plans for establishing a desert institute and a seed bank in partnership with major international universities and institutes.
He said the government of Sharjah was striving to provide amenities of a decent life, including education, to residents of the central region. Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, was present during the event.
He called on citizens of the region to firmly adhere to local values and traditions so as to cement bonds of cohesion and safeguard safety and security of the nation amid daunting challenges facing the Arab region.
Professor Hamid Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, also addressed the event.
The state-of-the-art campus was built on a total area of 9,885 square metres at a cost of Dh60 million.
Some 140 male and female students are attending colleges of law, arts, business administration, communications, and Sharia and Islamic Studies.
