Scholarships enrich local economy

Dubai: The British University in Dubai (BUiD) last week announced an increase in higher education professionals contributing to the local economy thanks to scholarship grants from key partners. The university has received a number of students on scholarships since its inception in 2003. Each graduate on scholarship has been supported by BUiD and its partners to study and conduct research in dedicated areas, resulting in dissertations that strongly impact key issues affecting the country’s economic growth. The Emirates Foundation teamed up with the university in 2005 and fully funded the higher education of 104 students taking up masters degrees in project management, sustainable design of the built environment and IT (information technology) management.

Arab universities meet in Egypt

Ajman: The Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) recently took part in the third conference on ‘Arab Universities: Challenges and Prospects’ held in Sharm Al Shaikh, Egypt. The three-day event was organised by the Arab Organisation for Administrative Development, part of the League of Arab States, in cooperation with the Oman College for Science and Technology. Arab universities from Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Bahrain, Kuwait and Libya were represented. AUST was represented by Dr Basheer Shehadah, university vice-president for follow-up and development. He gave a presentation titled ‘The Basics of Comprehensive Evaluation at AUST’.

Middlesex Dubai begins new postgraduate course

Dubai: Middlesex University Dubai is starting an MA Education: Leadership, Management and Change programme today. The course is being held on a part-time basis over 18 months. Classes will be held in the evenings for the convenience of working students. According to the director Professor Raed Awamleh, the course, which covers a wide range of educational theory and practice, “offers professional educators a unique opportunity to become real agents of change by undertaking a postgraduate degree directly related to their work in the educational field”.
