A total of 512 schoolteachers and administrators in the Dubai Educational Zone have registered for the International Computer Driving Licence training programme.
In response to the recent initiative by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defence Minister, to inculcate a high level of IT skills among educationists in Dubai Educational Zone (DEZ), the Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Information Technology Education Project (ITEP) has recorded a tremendous response.
The International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) training course will be conducted by ITEP and the initiative begins next month. It will be the largest training project conducted by ITEP.
The Dubai Crown Prince has set a target date of the end of 2006 to complete the new initiative. Achieving ICDL certification, he said, is an essential requirement for all teachers and administrators working for the DEZ.
Dr Abdullah Al Karam, the ITEP's Director, told Gulf News that the first programme will start on February 2. The rest will follow until October 4, 2006.
"The training will take place in 20 different computer labs in different Dubai secondary schools," he said. "Each trainee will be tested in seven relevant subjects. The trainee will further be granted the ICDL when he or she passes the examination."
