Dubai Heritage and Touristic Season to run from October 2013- April 2014
Dubai: An initiative aimed at bringing Dubai’s heritage to the forefront was launched on Wednesday.
In line with the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to establish Dubai as a leading tourist destination, Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture, has announced the launch of the inaugural Dubai Heritage and Touristic Season.
The Dubai Heritage and Touristic Season will run from October 2013 to April 2014, coinciding with the wealth of heritage events and activities that Dubai Culture hosts during the course of the year. Shaikh Majid announced the new initiative during a visit to the Al Shindagha historical neighbourhood.
The season will see a range of activities and workshops that will be held across the various heritage sites, as well as within the heritage centres that are operated by the authority across public schools in Dubai.
He said, “Our city is home to some of the region’s most magnificent heritage sites which have paved the path for our growth over the last years. By highlighting these venues through the Dubai Heritage and Touristic Season, we are revealing our most precious historical assets to residents and visitors, allowing them to gain invaluable insights into destinations that were at once the hubs for business, trade, and culture.”
Dubai Culture will also work alongside small and medium enterprises, academic institutions, and cultural organisations, who will lend their expertise by providing Dubai Culture with ideas that will nurture a greater understanding of the city’s heritage.
