DNA tests to be done on abandoned newborn
Abu Dhabi: Police have said that DNA tests will be conducted on a baby girl found abandoned in a park on Thursday night.
Gulf News first reported the story on Monday, the baby believed to be three weeks old, was found in a park on Electra Street. The park, unofficially known as the Sri Lankan Park, is close to the Tourist Club area.
A Pakistani driver who spotted the unattended infant informed the police central operations room. A team of rescue officials arrived at the scene to find the baby girl dressed and left in a pram with her feeding bottle. She is currently at the Shaikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) where she is described only as "unknown".
Madinah Police have opened a case.
"Investigations are on and once the DNA tests are done the baby will be handed over to a government-owned care centre," said a police spokesperson.
"When we found the baby she was lying in the pram, dressed in baby clothes and a diaper, with a feeding bottle filled with milk next to her. Her towel was dripping wet, we are not sure how," said an official, who requested anonymity.
