Young policeman convicted of 'violent rape' gets a year in jail
Dubai: A policeman who said he heard "devilish calls" with which he complied before he raped a victim, must spend a year in jail, a court has ruled.
Dubai Court of Appeal confirmed the initial verdict and sentenced the accused to one year in jail.
In compliance with Article 212 of the Federal Penal Code No. 3 of 1987 and due to the rapist's young age, the Dubai Court of First Instance awarded him a lenient sentence after he was found guilty of "violent rape".
Dubai Public Prosecution had charged the 20-year-old UAE national policeman, A.M., with threatening his compatriot victim, A.O., and raping him.
The incident happened when the victim was heading to a grocery shop with a friend around 8pm. The accused blocked his way and dragged him to a dark area. The victim said the accused taped his mouth, forced him down to the floor, undressed and raped him.
When the victim reported to Al Muraqqabat police he claimed that he couldn't defend himself because he was threatened of being beaten. Besides, he alleged that another person escorted his rapist. A forensic doctor told the court the victim showed no evidence of violence during the recent sexual intercourse.
