Two caught with 73kg of hashish in Abu Dhabi

They were arrested after police received information that they were planning to sell large quantities of drugs

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police seized 73 kilograms of hashish and arrested two suspects in a single operation during Ramadan.

Colonel Taher Al Daheri, head of the Directorate of Drug Control, said the two Asian suspects were arrested after a secret source informed the police about their plans to sell large quantities of hashish during Ramadan.

According to Col Al Daheri, the suspects planned to sell the drugs after Maghrib prayers as they thought quieter streets would help them avoid creating suspicion.

A team was formed which monitored the two men and their movements. They were eventually arrested when they tried to sell some quantity of hashish to someone. According to Col Al Daheri, the suspects were taken by surprise when the police swooped on them. As much as 73kg of the contraband was seized from their possession.

The two have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further action.
