Dubai: Three men have been accused of kidnapping two brothers and assaulting them with sharp tools to force one of them to admit that he stole birds.

Prosecutors accused the three Emirati men, A.J., A.G. and N.M., of tricking the Pakistani brothers and kidnapping them to an unpopulated sandy area.

Then the suspects attacked the brothers with swords, knives and wooden bars to force the elder brother, 27-year-old A.M., to confess that he stole A.J.'s birds.

N.M. failed to appear before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

"I am not guilty. Actually I have a text message on my mobile phone from the claimant, A.M., confirming that I was not present on the day when he was kidnapped from Ajman. I will bring my phone and present this message to prove my innocence," argued A.J. when he defended himself before Presiding Judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi.

His alleged crime accomplice, N.M. also pleaded not guilty and refuted his accusations.

According to the arraignment sheet, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Hassan Abdul Rahim said the defendants kidnapped the victims in an act of revenge. Records said N.M. drove to Ajman and lured the victims to go with him to an unpopulated area in the desert. Then they attacked the brothers with sharp tools and a wooden bar.

A.M. testified that A.G. phoned him around 11pm and claimed that he wanted him to examine the modified engine of his car.

"He called me because he knew that I work in a garage. Three men accompanied him when he came. My brother and I went with them. Meanwhile A.G,. received a phone call from which I understood that his parents had a car accident. I agreed to go with him to Emirates Road because he is my friend… we reached an unpopulated desert area. Then A.J. came in another car… he carried a huge stick. A huge group of men ganged up against me and my brother. A.J. battered me on my head and I bled severely. All the present men beat me and my brother and wanted me to confess to robbing A.J. I shouted that I did not rob him before I fell unconscious," A.M. claimed in his prosecution statement.

His brother, S.M., confirmed what happened at the sandy area.

Prosecution records said the defendants put A.M., who was bleeding and unconscious, in the trunk and dropped him near Al Rashidiya Area. Police arrested the defendants shortly after A.M. told them what happened.

The trial continues.
