Technician jailed for six months

Dubai: A medical technician has been jailed for six months after a court convicted him of stealing medical bandages and supplies from Rashid Hospital where he worked.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 34-year-old technician, S.D., of abusing his post and stealing 13 boxes of medical bandages and supplies.

The court slapped a fine equivalent to the price of the stolen items [the price was not mentioned in the records]. He will be deported after serving his jail term.

The Filipino defendant contended in court: "I am guilty. I want the judge to hand me a lenient judgment… I took the bandages." A guard testified that he found the bandages on searching the technician's bag.
