Policeman faces deportation

Dubai: A policeman will be deported although he won a one-year suspended imprisonment after a teenage girl dropped a molestation case against him.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 34-year-old Omani policeman, K.B., of molesting his 16-year-old countrywoman.

The judge handed him a one-year suspended imprisonment after the girl appeared in court and dropped her complaint against him.

Yet under the Criminal Procedures Law and Penal Law, deportation is obligatory in sex-related crimes even if a defendant produces a waiver in court.

When K.B. appeared in court, he denied the charge of pinning the girl to the floor and kissing and sexually abusing her in a friend's residence near DragonMart. "I did not molest her… I didn't do that," said K.B. when he defended himself.

According to the arraignment sheet, prosecutors said K.B. made the most of the fact that 16-year-old F.K. was present in his friend's flat where he molested her.

‘Help find a job'

The teenager testified that the incident happened when she visited the UAE with her uncle and she was looking for a job.

"I met my uncle's friend at the Metro station where he works. He was supposed to help me find a job. I went with him to his car and handed him my papers and CV for the job."

"I waited for him in his car until he changed his clothes in his house, then we took the road to Oman ... when we reached DragonMart, his friend, named A., phoned and asked to lend him his car to go to Oman.

Strangers

"My uncle's friend suggested that I go to Oman with A. The latter took me and drove the car of my uncle's friend… he said he wanted to change his sports outfit in his flat behind DragonMart. He didn't want me to wait alone in the car because of strangers. I went to his residence.

"While we were in the flat, K.B. and another man came to the place… when the defendant saw me he asked to have sex with me. I strongly refused. But he pulled me into one of the bedrooms where he kissed and molested me," F.K. told the prosecutors.
