Man in dock for threatening Dubai police personnel
Dubai: An Australian visitor has been charged with threatening police after beating up a taxi driver.
According to records, the 32-year-old Australian J.R. and his Kenyan female friends, 24-year-old T.W. and 21-year-old P.N. quarrelled with the Yemeni driver and beat him up.
When the police intervened, J.R. threatened to publish their pictures in newspapers if they detained his friends.
The man and the women, have been charged with assaulting the 23-year-old driver with a mobile phone, cursing him and refusing to pay his tariff of Dh15.
J.R. has also been charged with consuming liquor while T.W. has been charged with assaulting policewomen who tried to lock her up. The suspects have denied the charges.
The driver said the accused repeatedly changed their destination after he picked them from Karama. The accused alleged he refused to take them where they wanted to go.
