Man arrested in Ajman over claims of magical powers

Ajman: Ajman Police have arrested an Arab national who is accused of conning people into believing that he was able to treat diseases by using magic, an official said on Saturday.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, director of the Criminal Investigation Department, said the suspect was allegedly swindling the people through “acts of sorcery and witchcraft”.

He swindled a number of people by claiming that he possessed “magic powder” and offered to treat diseases for Dh40,000.

A CID team managed to identify the suspect and caught him red-handed. An undercover policeman posed as a patient and the suspect was arrested when he began practising witchcraft and sorcery.

Col Al Matroushi said police found the suspect was wearing special clothes for surgical operations, and tools used in his illegal activity were seized. The man was using a large water bottle with leaves of plants. He sprayed the water in the corners of the victim’s house. The police also found five small water bottles carrying oil and a gold pendant in the shape of a heart.

The suspect confessed to his crime and said he lured victims by saying he could treat any disease.

Col Al Matroushi urged the public not to believe such claims and to immediately report such people to the police.
