Abu Dhabi: A man has been accused of repeatedly stabbing his wife in a fit of jealously after he suspected she was having an affair. The incident happened on Monday afternoon in the Capital Mall.

The suspect, a 61-year-old Pakistani reportedly repeatedly stabbed his 40-year-old Filipina wife before security personnel intervened. She was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The woman, J.D. was working at a beauty booth in the mall when the attack happened at around 3.30pm. The police identified the man, K.Shah, as her husband after he was apprehended.

CCTV surveillance footage showed the man looking for his wife at her usual post and police revealed when he could not find her he called her repeatedly on her mobile phone.

On returning to her post, the woman explained that she was using the bathroom but her husband left and came back with a butcher’s knife which he had allegedly stole from a shop.

Police say that Shah had kept the knife behind his back and began attacking his wife by pulling her hair and stabbing her before she managed to escape his grip.

The man later told authorities that he had suspected an ongoing relationship between his wife and an Asian security guard working in the same mall. He also said that photos on his wife’s mobile phone confirmed his beliefs which led him to stalk her at her workplace.

The police also arrested the security guard whom the suspect accused of having an illicit relationship with his wife. Investigations are ongoing.
