Computer instructor denies requesting bribe to make policewoman pass ICDL course after three failures
Dubai: A Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) instructor on Tuesday denied in court that he took a bribe from a policewoman to make her pass an International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) course.
Prosecutors accused the 30-year-old Jordanian computer instructor at KHDA of requesting and accepting a bribe from the Emirati policewoman after she failed the ICDL examination three consecutive times.
Strongly denying the charges before the Dubai Court of First Instance, 30-year-old M.F. said: "No sir, I did not take any bribe… I am not guilty." According to the charge sheet, M.F. abused his duties as public servant and requested the bribe from the policewoman.
Adjournment
Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout adjourned the case until December 27 to hear prosecution witnesses' statements.
Prosecutors said the defendant requested Dh2,000, three mobile phones and two perfumes in bribes.
The Emirati policewoman testified that the incident happened after the Dubai Police management enrolled her in the ICDL course held at the Dubai Police Officers Club.
She said when she asked M.F. about how she could get trial exams, he gave her his contact number. She said she changed her mind but M.F. later came to her place of work and asked for money, mobile phones and perfumes for him and two of this colleagues.
Prosecution records said the defendant was arrested in a sting operation after the policewoman informed her supervisors about the incident.
