Dubai: Police say they handled 1,911 cases involving documents suspected of being fake, in the first five months of this year.

The number had increased from last year where only 808 such cases were reported in the first five months of the year.

The total number of cases for 2009 was 1,837. Only 799 cases were recorded on the first five months of 2008, adding up to a total of 1,790 cases involving documents suspected of being fake for the full year of 2008.

The documents that were investigated in 2010 were for 394 cases involving cheque signatures, 113 commercial products, 93 for forging money, four cases of forging visas, and seven cases of forging driving licenses.

Forensics expert Aqil Al Najar, said the increase was due to the continuous development in Dubai.
