Dubai: An American plastic surgeon faces two months in jail after the Dubai Misdemeanours Court on Wednesday convicted him of impersonating a top American plastic surgeon to Hollywood stars.

Presiding Judge Jamal Mohammad Jubaily jailed the 40-year-old American defendant, S.G.M., for one month for unlawfully practising medicine and impersonating Dr Steven B. Hopping.

The judge found him guilty of forging a labour card from the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital that bore Hopping's name.

The court also handed him another month in jail for practising medicine without obtaining proper permission from the Ministry of Health and without adhering to the required conditions.

Deportation

"The accused will be deported after serving his sentence," Jubaily said when he addressed S.G.M. and pronounced the verdict in courtroom 20 yesterday.

Senior Prosecutor Shoaib Ahli had questioned the defendant on the allegations against him.

Yesterday's judgment is still subject to appeal within 15 days.

Prosecution sources told Gulf News that S.G.M. is currently being questioned in two new cases of alleged botched liposuction surgery on a Palestinian and a Romanian woman.
