CID handled more than 1,600 cases last year

Dubai: The Criminal Investigation Department of Dubai Police dealt with 1,658 cases in 2005, ranging from murder, kidnapping, robbery, rape, pocket picking and car theft, statistics showed.

The cases included 24 murder cases, 502 sex-related cases, 33 kidnapping cases, 530 drug crimes, 180 thefts, 18 fire cases, 153 car theft cases, 188 pocket picking cases and seven rape cases.

The department also handled five murder cases in the first two months of 2006, police sources told Gulf News.
