Sharjah Police are investigating the death of a newborn baby found at the bottom of a ventilation shaft in a multi-storey building in Sharjah on Sunday morning.

The baby boy, whose body was discovered covered in blood, is presumed to have been flung from one the apartments in a residential building on Jamal Abdul Nasser Street.

The grisly discovery was made by the building's watchman, who was shocked to find the tiny body in a pool of blood as he investigated a foul odour emanating from the ventilation shaft as he carried out his morning routine of cleaning the building.

A source at Sharjah Police said that the baby was only a few days old, and that police had already arrested a man and a woman who are suspected to have been involved in the infant's death.
